KFC Takes Over Twitter
KFC has struck social media marketing gold with their subtle
yet genius reference to their famous chicken recipe. In a tweet that has since
gone viral, Twitter user @edgette22 pointed out that KFC’s official Twitter
account was only following 11 people. Who were those 11 people? “5 Spice Girls
and 6 guys named Herb”. The joke is in reference to their famous recipe, which
includes 11 herbs and spices.
Naturally, Twitter went crazy over the revelation and many
called for KFC to give the person in charge of their Twitter a raise. It seems
KFC has mastered the subtle sense of humor that Twitter users can’t get enough
of, just by waiting for the fans to discover the funny following for
themselves. This was a bold move considering that most people don’t pay close
enough attention to a fast food Twitter account, much less who they are
following. But if we can know Selena unfollowed Justin 5 minutes after the
fact, it should be no surprise that Twitter caught on pretty quickly.
Wendy’s, who has previously been praised for their clever
Tweets and friendly feuds with other brands, joined in on the joke, tweeting “Just
realized they weren't following back. Rude. Good joke though.”
Well done, KFC.
